It has four bells from our own Craig LaBan and was a semi-finalist for the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Restaurant” in 2014, 20. It is critically acclaimed both locally and nationally. An enduring Philadelphia favorite for more than 20 years, located in Old City, the sophisticated restaurant owned by Ellen Yin and co-owned by Chef Eli Kulp has been open and providing fine dining for more than 20 years. I’ll need to go back for the potato donut and chicken liver mousse! Fork Restaurant should need no introduction. They’ve updated the menu since our visit so please reference the photo below before you book as a few of the items we tried were for the holiday edition. I daresay the gingerbread macaron was my favorite as I go for anything gingerbread and I simply adore macarons. We throughly enjoyed the sweet and savory treats. Each served in beautiful and intricate imported teapots and expertly poured by our server. I adored the comforting Earl Grey, while Amaris savored the intoxicatingly herbal Organic Turmeric and Ginger. We both each enjoyed one pot of tea, chosen from a selection of eight which were presented on a cart rolled to our table. It was hard to pick a favorite, but the Roobois with spiced rum, apple brandy, and spiced pear syrup was truly exceptional. The tea-infused cocktails were quite delightful. I’m all about cocktails, even during afternoon tea. I, along with frequent Philly Grub contributor Amaris Pollock, recently experienced the afternoon tea offering upon invitation. To complement the Afternoon Tea menu, premium teas, tea-infused cocktails, and sparkling wine will be available a la carte. For $45 per person, guests enjoy two cups of tea from a menu directed by Philadelphia’s own Rival Bros., as well as a selection of mini sandwiches, scones, chocolates, cookies and other sweet treats by Fork’s pastry chef Aaron Manuyag. It was only supposed to run through the end of December, but due to popular demand they will be offering it every Saturday afternoon 1 p.m. Last November, Fork Restaurant launched an afternoon tea service for the holidays.
